I just bought a washer and dryer set for my apartment I’m renting. When I moved in to this apartment my rental agency told me I had washer and dryer hookups. I believed them and didn’t really think about looking for said hookups until I bought the set. After The set is delivered I come to find out that they’ve installed a new water heater (before we moved in) that takes up my dryer outlet! I called to ask them to install a new 250 V Outlet so we could use both appliances and they told me that the owners wouldn’t pay for it, and that they wouldn’t compensate the owners for one to be installed!
So I need to know what my options are? Can they be forced to put in a new outlet because they aren’t providing "Essential services", or am I out of luck. I feel that when they told me that I had washer and dryer hookups, I should’ve had a 250V outlet specifically for my dryer should I bring one hen I move in or buy one, I don’t feel I should be forced to buy a 110 Volt Mini-dryer.
Please help!
Just to clarify, I’m already living in the apartment (have been since July). And as for the people who say that I should Do it Myself, it was already costing an electrician 00 to run a new circuit to put in the outlet, and I have no experience with electrical work. I think the rental agency should have to pay for it, or at least the Owners (to then be later reimbursed by the Rental Agency) becuase my hot water heater should not be hooked up to a dryer outlet that was advertised as part of the rental. Thanks!
