For some months, I’ve been drinking one night every week. In the last 6 days, I’ve drank 4 times, yesterday I didn’t drink, this is the second day I haven’t drunk. Is it possible that I can experience alcohol withdrawal symptoms? My hands aren’t shaking, but it’s like I have to vomit, I’m depressed, bored and have anxiety.
How much and for how long do you have to drink to get alcohol withdrawal symptoms?
(I drank about 1 and a half bottle of wine each day)

My dad quit drinking alcohol years ago, but now he’s addicted to it again. I really want to get him admitted to an alcohol rehab already. He does seem to want to stop, I think it’s just the withdrawal symptoms that are pushing him to drink alcohol over and over again. Any tips on how to find alcohol rehabs?

What do you feel like and what happens if you don’t have any alcohol to drink? How long does it take before the withdrawal symptoms start happening?

I recently decided to take alcohol out of my diet completely. I used to drink a pint of beer or so a night after work. I am on day 2 and feel pretty good. I am just apprehensive of if I am fooling myself. Is it possible I could still experience symptoms or DTs? Thanks!!
I do see the whiskey/beer comparison. I have been reading all these stories since I stopped :) Kinda freaked me out

I have been a heavy wine drinker for almost 5 years now; drinking a bottle and a half 12.5% wine per night.
I have decided to finally give up the heavy drinking. Last night was my first night without it and it has now been 36 hours.
The only symptoms i notice is a slight headache and some aching in my neck. No tremor or anything else whatsoever.
Could this mean i may have a lucky escape from the nasty withdrawal symptoms or could they still be to come? Many thanks.

My mum is an alcoholic, and after many years of hitting the bottle she has finally decided to do something about it and kick the habit. she hasn’t had a drink for 3 weeks now but to be honest I’m really worried about her. her skin is very yellow (apparently this has something to do with her liver failing?) and she has lost a tremendous amount of weight and when I visited her yesterday she could hardly summon up the energy to speak. Do any of you know if this is normal, apparently my sister told me that my mums G.P wanted to admit her to hospital but my mum refused. To be honest I think she should be in hospital as she looks desperately ill, she won’t admit she is feeling horrid (it’ taken her nearly 10 years to admit to her drink problem) but I have heard that going "cold Turkey" is dangerous. I know it’s an awful thing to say but she looks much worse since giving up the booze. Is there anyone who has had experience of this or anyone who has medical knowledge of her situation?

Hey,

I recently had a panic attack on Sunday, shaking uncontrollably and experiencing derealization. I wouldn’t consider myself an alcoholic, but for the past 2 weeks or so, I’d more or less been drinking a good bottle of red wine every night or more, and I’m only 19 with a very small and slender frame. On Saturday night I had a tremendous amount of wine, followed by a pint of cider as I was at a family party. Then the next day, I awoke and was fine for about 3 or 4 hours. I hadn’t had much sleep recently either and I was at work and suddenly, I had a panic attack, shaking uncontrollably with extreme irritability. I’ve been feeling better and am not really experiencing derealization as such, but I still don’t feel too right and I’m really, really anxious and scared. Can someone please tell me that this is only due to the alcohol withdrawal and when it will pass? My doctor explained to me that the red wine contains metabolites which cause the nerves to get excited and gave me 7 tablets of Diazepam 2mg.

Thanks very much.

I am 31. Was a fairly heavy drinker for about 10 years. Have gradually cut down in the past year and no alcohol for about 2 weeks now. Have quit for many reasons – health (mental and physical), was having interrupted sleep and refound Christian faith). In the past 3 months or so after cutting back I have had sporadic insomnia which has become a lot worse in the past month. Could it be related to alcohol withdrawal? Has anyone experienced it and will it go away?????
I’m actually having no problems laying off the drink – am much happier without it. I live in the rural area of a non-English speaking country and there is no AA within a commutable distance.

Greetings,

I am a 21 year old male that drinks anywhere from 40-70 drinks a week, and have drank this way for the past 2-3 years. I understand that this is a problem and I should get help soon. This past week and a half has been bad, where I drank heavily (15+ drinks a night) and blackedout more than half of the nights. The last time I drank was Friday during the day and it is now Sunday and I feel terrible. I cannot concentrate on anything, I am dizzy and I feel very tired. Could this be because of alcohol withdrawal? If it is are there any tips for reducing the symptoms? Do you think I should just have a few drinks?

Thank you
I do not plan on quitting drinking for a while. I just want to get rid of the symptoms so I can study. Eventually, I plan on getting professional help; however, right now I am enrolled in school and I want to finish this semester.
